"Facing the Risks" summaries the work of the Hawkes Bay Engineering Lifelines Project from 1998 to 2001. The overall objectives of the project were to reduce both the damage levels and the time taken to restore services from key utilities, after a major disaster.
The report defines the risk posed to key engineering lifelines from all known hazards and identifies risks. While hazard research and lifelines utilities continues to evolved since its publication, the general findings of the report are still valid.
Hazard research and information has developed significantly since this report, much of which is now largely available in a spatial format to support a GIS-based analysis of where hazards pose a threat to critical lifelines infrastructure. Visit the HBCDEM Group Hazard Portal to access the most current hazard information.
