You can play a vital role in your community’s preparation for, response to, and recovery from an emergency. Working in partnership with the Civil Defence Emergency Management team there are a number of roles to promote preparedness and supporting the community through disasters and recovery.
Volunteers participate in exercises and events throughout the year to maintain their skills and relationships with each other and civil defence staff.
Volunteers train primarily to be ‘Community Response Teams’, working towards the appropriate certificates and audit requirements to enable them to be deployed nationally to assist with the emergency response. This includes:
• Welfare Centre management
• Accommodation co-ordination
• Special requirements co-ordination
• Companion Animal Welfare
• Radio-telephone communications
There are also other volunteer roles, such as within communications and information technology, and to provide rescue capability.
