During some emergencies Civil Defence Centres may open. These may provide information, services, assist evacuations and provide welfare. Centres will be open based on the community need, proximity to an event and the availability of resources and staff to operate them. The location and services offered through these centres are determined subsequent to an emergency to best service the community’s needs.
After any disaster communities will come together to support to those who need it, look for assistance, find out information, and share stories about their experiences. Some communities will come together in a pre-arranged Community Emergency Hub. Notifying us when your hub stands up ensures that we can provide necessary advice, support, and resources to assist your community to look after its people, place and animals effectively following an emergency.

If you need to evacuate or can’t get home, go to friends and whānau in a safe area
If you need assistance or information listen to the radio or visit the HB Emergency Facebook page.
