Tihei mauriora.

E ngā mana, e ngā reo, e ngā karangatanga maha, huri noa, tēnā rā tātou katoa!

It’s been around six weeks since New Zealand entered a lockdown that placed the most significant restrictions on our movements in modern history, to protect our country from the potential devastating impacts of COVID-19.

Our case numbers show the incredible effort everyone has put in so far. But we’re not there yet. We still have a long way to go to stamp out this pandemic so let’s not get complacent.

Remain vigilant, be careful, keep physically distancing and stay at home as much as possible. We are on this journey together and depend on one other.

As well as the many difficulties caused by the pandemic, we know this year’s persistent and severe drought, particularly in Central Hawke’s Bay and Hastings, is having a major impact on farmers.

If you do need help, please reach out. Contact your GP if you need to – don’t neglect your health.

If you’re struggling to cope with the effects of COVID-19, call 0800 561 322 from 8.30am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, or the emergency mental health number (0800 112 334) if you need urgent help.

If you need rural support, call 0800 787 254 to speak with a representative from the East Coast Rural Support Trust.

And finally, for urgent welfare support, call 0800 HBAYCD (0800 422 923).

Our hard work has got us this far. Our continued hard work will keep us here.

No reira e te whānau, kia kaha, kia māia, kia manawanui.

Tihei, mauriora!
